| What
makes a good website? - Design
There are three main elements that contribute
to the success of any website:
- A professional design
- A site that's easy to navigate
- A site that is easy to find
Get any of these elements wrong and your company
will pay the price in lost opportunities and lost business.
A good website must represent your company to
the world. It will be your first point of contact for many new customers.
You will never get a second chance to create a good first impression,
so you'd better make it count. Good content
will help, but good design and a site that's easy to navigate will
be essential elements if your site is to succeed.
A good website need not cost a great deal of money,
but a bad website could, and almost certainly will, cost you a lot
in in lost sales. Many companies have "saved" money by
taking short cuts or by selecting to take the DIY route. But is
it really a good idea?
Yes. you could probably make your own site. Eventually
you may come up with an effective and professional design, then
you could refine the navigation so that people will stay on your
site. You'll need to think about browser compatibility issues, ensure
that you comply with the law on accessibility. And you'll need to
build into the site the required elements that will help to make
the site "Google friendly".
Once you done that and a few hundred other things,
then you could start to learn the necessary programs to begin construction.
Make sure the site is quick to download. Maybe you'll need a database
back-end or a few php scripts for forms or other interactivity.
A design program to make all the graphic elements for the site.
Then a web construction program to put all the pages together.
Of course, once you have the site finished, you'll
need to find a hosting
service, so that you can publish the site to the world. And then
you'll need to make it actually work with the hosting service's
servers.
Or, you could just contact Nettix and see how
we could build you a professional site for a very reasonable cost
and have it up and working for your company in just a few weeks
or months. |
